The Blue Ridge Parkway is a beautiful 469-mile drive through the US. There are amazing scenic views, unique hiking trails, and lots of other attractions that make the parkway that much more special. However, with close to 500 miles on the route, it can get a little confusing as to which stops one should visit. That’s why we’ve created this post! In this post, we’re going to be talking about the top eight sites you need to visit on the blue ridge parkway near Boone so that when you embark on that journey, you can make the most of it.

8 Places You Need to Visit on the Blue Ridge Parkway Near Boone NC

1. Rough Ridge

The Rough Ridge trail is one of the easiest hiking trails on the entire route. It’s less than a mile in length and the views of North Carolina’s High Country from the end make for incredible Instagram shots!

2. Beacon Heights

Those that are looking for a similar, short hike, but want things to be a little more challenging, would much prefer Beacon Heights instead. This is also just one mile, but it’s a lot steeper than Rough Ridge, from the top, you get a front and center view of Grandfather Mountain that you can’t get anywhere else.

3. Cascades Waterfall

If you’re someone that likes waterfalls, the cascades waterfalls is the perfect place to be.  It’s a two-mile hike to the top, but it’s very gradual and you’re constantly surrounded by the most serene and beautiful views. When you finally make it to the top of the cascades, you’re gifted with a stunning 250-foot waterfall.

4. Thunder Hill Overlook

This is a must-see for anyone that wants to experience the Blue Ridge Parkway at its finest. The Thunder Hill Overlook is one of the highest points on the route and gives you a 180 view of the gorgeous Appalachian Mountains. It’s one of the best points to stop at during the entire route and watch the sunrise or the sunset!

5. Grandfather Mountain Swinging Bridge

The Grandfather Mountain Swinging Bridge is one of the most popular attractions on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s a 228-foot suspension bridge that sways 80 feet above the ground and gives you incredible views of the mountains. It’s also the only privately-owned attraction on the parkway, so definitely make sure to stop by!

6. The Linn Cove Viaduct

The Linn Cove Viaduct is an incredible man-made structure that’s actually part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s a 1243-foot concrete bridge that has been carefully designed to avoid any damage to the surrounding environment. It’s definitely a must-see for anyone that’s interested in engineering or architecture working in harmony with the natural environment.

7. Price Lake, Park, and Boone Fork Trail

Price Lake is a beautiful stop that’s great for anyone that wants to relax by the water. You can go fishing, canoeing, or just take a leisurely stroll around the lake.

The Boone Fork Trail is also a great option for anyone that wants to explore more of the park. It’s a 5.5-mile trail that takes you through some of the most beautiful scenery in the park! A little something for everyone!

8. Moses Cone Manor and Carriage Trails

The Moses Cone Manor is a historic house that was built in 1901. It’s now a museum that you can tour and learn all about the history of the house and the family that lived there. The estate also has over 20 miles of carriage trails that are perfect for hiking, biking, or horseback riding!

No matter what you’re looking for, the Blue Ridge Parkway near Boone, NC, has something for everyone! Make sure to add these eight must-see stops to your list and enjoy your journey through this beautiful drive!
