This summer, Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head, North Carolina, is pulling out all the stops to celebrate its 50th anniversary. From June 5–8, 2025, visitors and local residents can immerse themselves in a vibrant lineup of events designed to honor this beloved natural landmark.
The four-day celebration, hosted by the Friends of Jockey’s Ridge in collaboration with Park Superintendent Joy Cook, will feature a mix of first-ever experiences, family-friendly activities, live entertainment, and a whole lot more!

A Tribute to the Park’s Legacy
The jubilee also serves as a tribute to Carolista Baum, whose courageous effort in 1973 saved the dunes from destruction and sparked the creation of Jockey’s Ridge State Park in 1975. Today, the park spans 426 acres and is home to the East Coast’s tallest living sand dune system, attracting over one million visitors each year.
