For over 165 years, Orvis has been more than just a retailer for fly fishing in NC: They have been part of communities, sharing equipment, apparel, and expertise to foster unforgettable outdoor experiences for new and dedicated customers alike. Orvis Charlotte, now in its reopened location at the vibrant Strawberry Hill shopping center off Providence Road, continues this tradition.
Orvis Charlotte is a favorite among Charlotte residents, offering a diverse range of high-quality and well-curated outdoor gear. From fly fishing equipment to men’s and women’s sportswear, travel accessories, and technical apparel, Orvis Charlotte has everything you need for your outdoor adventures.
Orvis Charlotte is also dog-friendly, and even offers Orvis-endorsed hunting dog trainers and breeders. This is one piece of their mission to foster community and share their passion for the outdoors.
Teaching Present and Future Outdoor Adventurers
Previously located in Phillips Place in SouthPark, Orvis Charlotte now boasts dedicated classroom space in their new location. This is a testament to their commitment to empowering and inspiring future fly fishers through hands-on education.
The shop offers free Fly Fishing 101 classes, making learning the sport a breeze by providing the equipment and teaching you basics like casting and knot tying. Orvis Charlotte is all about empowering you to take your outdoor adventures to the next level.
After loading up on the essentials with the help of the experts at Orvis, you can put your fly fishing skills to the test. Some great places to fish nearby include the coves of Lake Norman in North Carolina or go down to the South Mountain State Park in South Carolina. Both locations offer different varieties of fish, including wild trout, catfish, and bass, and you can experiment with various types of tackle, knots, and more.
Tight-Knit Community
With an extensive network of lodges, outfitters, and guides, Orvis is in the business of getting you ready for your next outdoor adventure. Their expert staff is always prepared to share tips, tricks, and recommendations with any novice or seasoned pro on how to enjoy the natural world around them.
In addition to the classroom, Orvis Charlotte’s larger size incorporates social spaces and a defined area for customers to access travel booking resources. Through their endorsed partners, Orvis offers fly fishing and wingshotting classes, travel experiences, and community projects for anglers, hunters, and adventurers to come together. They are all about helping you to explore your curiosities through nature.
Giving Back with Orvis Charlotte
Recently, the new location had Tom Rosenbauer, professional fly fisher and author, for a Father’s Day event. Guests enjoyed testing the new Helios rod and listened to Rosenbauer talk about taking your trout fishing to the next level. This is just one example of how Orvis helps you to get involved with fellow local adventurers throughout greater Charlotte.
At Orvis Charlotte, they are about more than outdoor gear and classes. They are about making a difference in the community. As part of their spring Orvis Great Giveback Days, they partnered with the Anne Springs Close Greenway, a 2,100-acre park and outdoor oasis in Fort Mill that aims to connect people to nature. Their education efforts, in addition to conservation, are why Orvis Charlotte is proud to support them.
Previously, the Charlotte store has partnered with Catawba Lands Conservancy, Catawba Riverkeepers, Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, CCA, ASPCA, and Casting Carolinas during their Orvis Great Giveback Days.
In addition to the relocation, Orvis Charlotte opened another store front in Birkdale in 2023 which offers a scaled-down version of the Strawberry Hill store. All Orvis staff members are fueled by adventure and ready to help you prepare for your outdoor experiences.
