Moore County is the perfect place to spend your spring season, offering endless outdoor opportunities and stunning landscapes. The Sandhills is known for its golf courses but there are plenty of other reasons to choose to visit this area, and one of our favorites is the outdoor activities and beautiful natural opportunities. There is a wide variety of parks, nature walks, beautiful pine forests, lake trails, and so much more to explore! In honor of 2023 — the Year Of The Trail in North Carolina — Moore County has come up with a novel and artistic way to get residents and visitors outside. The initiative is called Pinecone Pathways in Moore County NC.

What Is The Pinecone Pathways Program?

The Pinecone Pathways Program launched on March 20, 2023, by the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB). The project aims to activate a network of multi-use paths and trails throughout the Sandhills and encourage residents and visitors to get outside and into nature.

Until the end of May, Pinecone Pathways is running a unique nature-infused treasure hunt like no other. As you take a scenic stroll along the pretty paths, you might be lucky enough to find one of 100 hidden glass pinecones. Created by talented glassmakers from Starworks in Star, NC, the gorgeous glass gems have been carefully hidden along trails throughout Moore County. The glass-blown pinecones are limited edition, so hit the walking trails soon to claim your treasure. If you don’t discover a glass pinecone, you are still guaranteed a beautiful day surrounded by nature. So take a peaceful solo walk or grab some friends and family for a hike and a picnic this weekend, and look for those sought-after colorful pinecones before they are all gone. You can also buy art from the non-profit online at their website. There are rules and bigger prizes like accommodation and gift cards if you find a pinecone, so visit www.homeofgolf.com/pineconepathwaysnc.

The Pinecone Pathways project recently launched to an amazing reception. There’s even an unofficial Facebook group dedicated to finding the unique glass pinecones chock full of tips and info from members.

Another important aspect of the Pinecone Pathways project is its focus on sustainability. The project is designed to minimize environmental impact and preserve the area’s natural beauty. In addition, the project will prioritize using local materials and resources wherever possible.

One of the most exciting aspects of the Pinecone Pathways In Moore County NC is its potential to boost the local economy. By providing more opportunities for outdoor recreation, the project can attract more visitors to the area and support local businesses.

The Pinecone Pathways project is an exciting initiative that can potentially transform Pinehurst and the surrounding area. By creating a network of multi-use paths and trails, the project will provide new opportunities for outdoor recreation, promote sustainability, boost the local economy, and improve the quality of life for residents. As the project progresses with more events and promotions like this one, it will be exciting to see how it evolves and impacts the community. Happy pinecone hunting!

A Story Trail, A Mural Trail, And A Wine Trail???

Also, starting in April, Moore County introduces another unique trail experience. Embark on the Sandhills Story Trail Adventures and explore the magical world with Winnie-the-Pooh as your guide. Pinehurst, Southern Pines & Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) has collaborated with their official Destination Storyteller Dan Dreyer to provide an interactive experience for all ages.

The Moore County Mural Trail is also another activity for visitors to enjoy. Moore County features  more than a dozen works of public art adding color and creativity to its towns. The highest concentration can be seen in downtown Carthage, where five murals reflecting local history, culture and lifestyle grace Courthouse Square alone.

For those wanting a different and more delicious kind of trail experience, the Moore County Pour Tour and Wine Trail offer beer and wine enthusiasts some very tasty options. Simply visit one of our local favorites, grab your corresponding passports and start checking off all the wineries, shops, and breweries on the list.

Did You Know 2023 Is The NC Year Of The Trail

Why so many trails you ask? Because 2023 is the NC Year of the Trail. This year is about more than just celebrating our state’s nature trails – it’s a campaign to cultivate appreciation for outdoor recreation among people from all ages, abilities and backgrounds. We believe in advancing diversity on every trail we come across, so whether you’re local or visiting from elsewhere – everyone can join this movement! With such an incredible initiative underway, let us uphold responsible use of these routes while boosting tourism throughout North Carolina.

Moore County proudly celebrates the 2023 Year of The Trail with its Pinecone Pathways Program. With an extensive array of outdoor activities and natural attractions, both locals and visitors alike can explore this vibrant North Carolina county in a safe way that respects local diversity and promotes anti-littering practices. Come hike the trails — assuredly, you’ll have a great time!
