Eating in Pinehurst is a gastronomical journey filled with delightful discoveries. The Villagio Restaurant at the Magnolia Inn is an absolute standout. The restaurant provides an extraordinary dining experience with Italian delights fused with a chic ambiance.
Then there’s The Deuce – not just a restaurant, but an institution that resonates the spirit of Pinehurst. Overlooking the venerable Pinehurst No.2, The Deuce offers patrons a unique outdoor dining experience paired with craft cocktails.
For those who seek an upscale dining experience as one of their Pinehurst NC activities, the 1895 Grille at the Holly Inn is indispensable. With a menu inspired by the region’s culinary traditions, the Grille is nothing short of sensational.
A visit to the Carolina Dining Room brings you face to-face with the flavors of the South. Here, the made-to-order omelettes remind you of breakfast on vacation in another country, while the instagrammable mile high key lime pie will blow your mind.
Establishments like Drum & Quill, Ironwood Café, and the new Maniac Grill on No. 10 offer an array of options for the discerning traveler.
Over in Southern Pines, Pinehurst’s quaint neighbor, you can find some amazing options too. Beefeater and Southern Prime Steakhouse serve up some fine cuts of meat, while the Sly Fox resembles an English Pub and serves up pints to match. Or visit Vito’s for a classic Italian meal.
Coffee In Pinehurst NC
Coffees, for many of us, are non-negotiables. Head to the Roast Office – a quaint coffee shop located in the town’s old post office building — and enjoy an unforgettable java experience. The Coffee House at The Carolina is a realtively new but exceptional option and then there’s Agora Bakery and Cafe with its delectable pastries and coffee.
Beers, Bourbon, and More In Pinehurst NC
Let’s be honest, during and after a round of golf the beer tends to flow! And Pinehurst has a ton of great establishments where you can hang with your friends and toast your day spent enjoying the U.S. Open.
The Pinehurst Brewing Company is one of my favorites. My buddy Hunter Downing is the head sud slinger at the popular brewery and he’s one of the best beer makers in the country. Their 1895 Lager is the perfect everyday golf beer to beat the heat. Also, of note is their spectacular barbecue…and if you’re into architecture and old buildings: this beautiful building used to be a historic steam plant and is so cool. I love the outdoor patio area too!
Now, for a traditional pub atmosphere, Dugan’s Pub has and still is the place to go. The North & South Bar, The Tavern, 91st Hole, and the Carolina Vista Lounge – each have their unique ambiance and assortment of spirits.
For those that are staying in neighboring Southern Pines there’s great options too: Southern Pines Brewing Company and Hatchet Brewery are both lively and serving up great beers.
Then, there’s the new and very impressive BHAWK Distillery. Their Sergeant’s Valor bourbon and Madam Colonel vodka and gin are highly sought after and their story is pretty incredible. Highly recommend you visit their website to learn more.
Shops And Galleries For The Golf Enthusiasts
Now for the shops and galleries that golf enthusiasts will love. There are two really impressive memorabilia shops that I think are musts when visiting the area. Number 1 is the Old Golf Shop and the second is the Old Sport & Gallery. These two are the perfect haven for golfing aficionados. The Given Tufts Bookshop is a great spot for book lovers, while the Tufts Archives presents a rich tapestry of the history of Pinehurst. The newly opened and can’t miss spot is the USGA Experience & World Golf Hall of Fame.
In neighboring Southern Pines, VAULT in Southern Pines is a great shop.
Pinehurst NC comes alive during the US Open. Obviously, the golf is world-class, the course is at its most challenging, and the best come to beat it, but there’s also so much more.
